Higher difficulties seem to make it more likely that they will betray you if they cheat death. You can revive a Follower a bunch of times to increase their chances of still being loyal if they die and return. If you decide to recruit them back after this, they can cheat death as allies. This will block Iron Will, but still make your Captain an enemy again and add Nemesis Score. If you desire to recruit them back when they get a scar without having to shame them, simply Identify/ the captain while the BETRAYAL dialogue is happening, and then close the game while on the captain's traits screen. However, this will add Iron Will into them. You can attack a follower until he has had enough of you and betrays you. Getting betrayed by an ally gives a very similar Nemesis Score to two deaths. Eventually, they will have equal score to two deaths and will be ready o cheat death. You can simply encounter Captains, run away from them, let them run away from you, or even advance time a bunch to increase their Nemesis Score, among many other interactions. Getting killed is not the only way to force returns. Regardless of all that, I recommend disabling saviors in the game settings. However, if you are about to be killed from a distance (thrown axes, spears, arrows), you won't be saved. They will show up to "help" you if you are about to be executed from close range. In Shadow of War, this is no longer the case and you only need two deaths for all.īeware of Saviors. Just like in Shadow of Mordor, it stops working after you force many (usually around 5) or if you have had several Captain cheat death already.īack in Shadow of Mordor, if you had an Active Returner (a scarred Captain who is alive), you would need an additional death to the next Captain you wanted to force to come back in the same region. A captain killed by a Graug can gain Beast-related traits, or Terrified, Fear or Enraged by Graugs. Example of Safe Areas where you cannot get ambushed are Haedir Towers, and the keep rooftops.Ĭaptains can gain traits based on how they cheat death. Step 5: Wander a Non-Safe Area to trigger the Returner Ambush. Pause menu, or playing story missions doesn't work. This time was to be waited out in actual game time. This is a 25 minute timer in which your Captain will be "dead". Step 3: Kill the captain accordingly with the scar you want to give him. Step 2: Let the Captain kill or Humiliate you twice. It can be a Captain, Warchief or Overlord. Step 1: Find a Captain you would like to give a scar to. So here is the easiest way to force a return: Pretty much anything you can do with a Captain increases it. Interactions increase a hidden trait that I refer to as "Nemesis Score". Also, we can increase their chances by having interactions with them. Those from story missions can also cheat death.Įarly in the game, Captains are more likely to cheat death. All Captains, Warchiefs and Overlords have a chance to cheat death as long as they didn't get beheaded, cleaved, or exploded (except for legendary scars that allow some of these). If you ever did this back in Shadow of Mordor, it works almost the exact same way. Shadow of War brings back this system and expands it enormously.įor the past 3 months, I have been experimenting with this feature to find every scar in the game.īig thanks to Professor Cookie at Discord for helping me confirm the existance of some of theseĪlso, I want to thank Forthog Orc-Slayer for continously killing the captains I was trying to die to, and making things harder, even though I uninstalled him! These encounters brought a new level of immersion to the game with six different scars, special dialogue, and much more. When Shadow of Mordor released, players were surprised by Captains coming back from the dead, seeking revenge for almost being killed.
